Houthi rebels in Yemen have attacked a Norwegian tanker, MT Strinda, with at least one missile, causing a fire.
The ship’s owners claim it was delivering oil to Italy for biofuel, contradicting Houthi statements that it was heading to Israel.
The attack, aimed at showing support for Palestinians, comes as the Houthis vow to block ships bound for Israel until it halts its offensive on Gaza.
The United States considers these attacks, allegedly supported by Iran, and has promised ‘appropriate responses.’
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree revealed that the ship was targeted after its crew ignored warnings, and the group has recently blocked several ships from Yemeni water.
