Latest Developments
Hezbollah attempted to carry out an anti-tank missile attack on November 7 against the northern Israeli community of Shtula. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it thwarted the attempted attack, and an Israeli tank struck the Hezbollah cell. Hezbollah has targeted numerous civilian areas along the border since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. On October 15, one person was murdered and several wounded in a similar attack by Hezbollah targeting Shtula. Israel continues to respond to threats from Lebanon.
Expert Analysis
“Hezbollah threats have increased since the Hamas massacre on October 7. Although Hezbollah has not launched an all-out war, it continues to believe it has impunity to attack Israel daily using missiles and rockets. This has terrorized northern communities in Israel and caused tens of thousands of people to be evacuated from the border.” — Seth J. Frantzman, FDD Adjunct Fellow
“While there has been continued conflict over the past month in northern Israel, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has chosen not to declare all-out war against the Jewish state. Instead, the majority of Hezbollah’s activities have been limited to the border area between Lebanon and Israel. Meanwhile, the IDF has focused on defensive measures and has only taken action in response to attacks launched by Hezbollah against Israel.” — Joe Truzman, Research Analyst at FDD’s Long War Journal
Rockets Fired at Northern Israeli Coastal Cities
On November 6, terrorists fired more than 30 rockets from Lebanon, setting off sirens along the coast of northern Israel. Cities north of Haifa, including the Krayot and communities near Acre, also heard sirens, causing people to seek shelter. The IDF responded with artillery fire. Terrorists in Lebanon have repeatedly targeted Haifa and the area along the coast since October 7.
Hezbollah Targets Vehicle With Anti-Tank Missiles
On November 5, Hezbollah targeted a vehicle with an anti-tank missile in northern Israel, killing one person, and subsequently released a video of the attack. The IDF retaliated with artillery. “Hezbollah identified the vehicle as civilian and chose to target it anyway. Everyday the IDF thwarts multiple attempts by Hezbollah and Hamas to carry out attacks like this on our northern border with Lebanon,” the Alma Research and Education Center concluded.
