Experts discuss the immediate impacts and likely long-term implications of the Israel-Hamas war on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Middle East and globally.

On Saturday 7 October Hamas launched an unprecedented land, air and sea attack on Israel, which took the Israeli Defence Forces and intelligence services by surprise.

In retaliation, Israel has launched heavy air strikes on the Gaza strip with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announcing that Israel is now at war with the militant group. While conflicts in Gaza aren’t new, this war will likely be a long and devastating conflict which may not only end any prospect for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, but will have far-reaching consequences for the immediate neighbourhood, the broader Middle East region and the international community.
